Take Courage, Out on a Limb ***

Former alumni of the soon-to-be-defunct Richter Collective, Jogging's sound slotted smoothly into the catalogue of that label: think intricate, melodic guitar earworms piercing through driving waves of rip-roaring riffs. They've found a new home with Limerick's Out on a Limb for their second album, but their method remains the same. Hardcore plays a big part in Jogging's composition, largely thanks to Darren Craig's guttural growl. The brawn is offset by more placid moments, however, as on Good Gold's chorus and stand-out track Every Bristle a Bayonet. Overall, though, Take Courage is a thrashy, punky, fierce beast, with songs such as False Spring almost strangely reminiscent of a revved-up version of The Fall. A solid-paced performance rather than a scintillating sprint, but there's nothing wrong with that. jogging.bandcamp.com
