) both embraces and subverts the genre with his score for
Knight and Day.
Since the film is an action comedy with Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz, Powell emphasises its high- octane romance with Argentinian tango and Mediterranean colours (French accordion, Spanish guitar) and supercharges both with energetic melodies and dynamic polyrhythms (Brazilian drums, jittery electronica). The result is similar to Powell’s score for
Mr & Mrs Smith.
