Now that he's shaken off the fetters of being "Neil's son", Liam Finn can get down to the important business of making music. The twentysomething Kiwi's output is nothing like that of Crowded House, the band he was raised both in and on, but elements of their melodic awareness – as well as the influences of The Beatles and Elliott Smith – persist amid the tangy sweetness of Roll of the Eyeand the simplistic Cold Feet. Yet if Finn's likeable 2007 debut was a clutch of bright-eyed, dreamy alt-pop numbers, FOMO (Fear of Missing Out)takes a step into the shadows. Jump Your Bones, Real Lateand The Struggleare dipped in experimental distortion and rolled in quirky rock squalls. It's evidence of the songwriter's adventurous, although admittedly still unrefined, vision. See liamfinn.tv
