The Slideshow Effect Sub Pop**

Girl/boy duo pursuing a line in dreamy indie-pop? We’ve been here before. Beach House, Joy Zipper, Asobi Seksu: the list goes on. So what makes Memoryhouse stand apart?

The pairing of Evan Abeele and Denise Nouvion was initially a visual arts project combining the former's musical compositions and the latter's photography, but Nouvion has since expanded her duties to vocalist. Truthfully, Memoryhouse's full-length debut isn't very memorable. Most of these tracks are minimalist in instrumentation and measured in tempo, although the occasional flourish of warm, jangly 1980s pop ( The Kids Were Wrong, Walk With Me) provides the texture that Nouvion's calm, maddeningly temperate voice lacks. The slow, lazy throb of bass throughout is undoubtedly soothing in places but, overall, it's a bit too humdrum to have any lasting effect. memoryhou.se
