If you want an act to get the party started, Gernot Bronsert and Sebastian Szary are usually near the top of the list. Live, the Berlin duo's boisterous pick-and-mix approach to sonic styles always suits the occasion when everyone is out to have a good time, though this buckwild eclecticism has not always bedded down as well on record. There's a familiar pattern to Modeselktor's third album, as they monkey around with twitchy bass, gabby rave, chunky trance, 1980s boogie, dirty beats . . . and Thom Yorke. The Radiohead geezer is Modeselektor's most famous fan, and he turns up on two tracks, adding his distinctive squawk to the odd angles of Shipwreckand This. Yet for all the buzz generated by Modeselketor, there's little here that really kicks like a mule or implants itself in your memory banks, despite the duo's best intentions on tracks Evil Twin.
