The World is YoursEMI **
It’s highly likely that not even Lemmy Kilmister himself thought that he’d be around long enough to make 20 albums. Yet as impressive an achievement as The World Is Yours is, this is an album for devoted fans only. Like any other recent Motörhead album, it’s rock-by-numbers; not quite Status Quo territory (although Rock ’n’ Roll Music comes close), but predictable and unvarying beefy guitar riffs combined with Lemmy’s distinctive growl and Mikkey Dee’s impressive frantic drumming. I Know What You Need bridges the gap between melody and grungey power, and Devils in My Head is one of several amusing panto-style “rawk” tunes, but really, there’s nothing new on offer. Motörhead may be a rock institution, but they’re badly in need of an oil change. See imotorhead.com
