There's quality galore in the Poliça ranks – the Minneapolis- based band features members of and links to Gayngs and Bon Iver. But it's the rich, beautifully crafted emotional power of Give You the Ghost that demands the headlines rather than those connections. Frontwoman Channy Casselle has a voice which matches her band's soft-shell, lonesome, melancholic electropop and r'n'b tunes to a T, while Ryan Olson's ability to consistently mould a tender, psychedelic swell of sound is equally impressive. Poliça's strongest suit, though, are the songs they have at their disposal, with Lay Your Cards Out and Dark Star in particular giving the musicians the width and depth to weave a spell and showcase a tune's emotional heft to the listener.
