Busker done good – it’s become something of a success story cliche. But Ryan Sheridan has more than paid his dues, having completed apprenticeships in the bars of New York and Glasgow before returning to Ireland and pursuing a solo career on the streets. Curiously, it seems that the years of hard slog have rounded off any edges Sheridan may have had, resulting in a musician who writes songs suited to stadium supports and daytime radio shows. Employing the brisk percussion-based strumming technique of Rodrigo y Gabriela, these 10 tracks are slick endeavours, but hugely derivative of the likes of Maroon 5 and Jack Johnson. If Sheridan ever finds his own voice, he may well flourish – but this album treads in well-worn footsteps instead of forging his own distinct course. See ryansheridanmusic.com
