Sarah Hammer

Oh Little, Fire Rounder

Oh Little,Fire Rounder

“If I only had one match left/ I would try to light the fire between us”.

Canadian singer- songwriter Sarah Harmer's first album in five years is a surprisingly polished slice of mature pop, packed with enticing melodies and lyrical longing. Harmer's last album ( I'm a Mountain) rooted her firmly in the alt.country category, but this lively collection takes her colourful observations on life and love into similar territory as Shaun Colvin and even a less quirky Laura Veirs.

From the opening The Thiefthrough to the closing I Think It Will Sail, Harmer's clean, attractively detached voice chronicles the vicissitudes of love, such as the contrasting emotions of New Lonelinessand The Marble in Your Eye. Producer Gavin Brown's inventive and rich instrumental settings and the multi-tracking of Harmer's voice adds depth and interest to what is a strong collection of songs.
