DRAKE ft ALICIA KEYS
Fireworks
Cash Money* * *
On the opening track from his Thank Me Lateralbum, the Canadian rapper opens up about his break up with Rihanna last summer which, as he told the New York Times, left him feeling "terrible". A girl broke his heart? In hip-hop terms that's the equivalent of admitting a fondness for pressed flower craft. The shame!
ARCADE FIRE
Ready to Start

More underwhelming new tracks from The Suburbs album hit the net this week. Mooted as a possible lead single in the US, Ready to Start includes an obvious nod to Dylan’s All Along the Watchtower (“Well, the businessmen drink my blood”). But where Dylan’s song was a masterpiece of mystery and suspense, this one never really makes it out of the starting blocks.

The accompanying press release claims that the Welsh veterans have played at “almost every single festival in Europe”. On this evidence, the organisers of the Gloucestershire Cheese Rolling Festival surely cannot hold out much longer.
THE DIRTY 9s ft DAVID SCOTT
The Ballad of El Diego
Indiecator Records * * *
“And if you meet the French/ Spring Diego from the bench.” For the love of God, don’t give him any ideas! The Dublin band have recorded this track in honour of Argentina’s World Cup squad and their erratic managers.

Groove Is in the Heart/ California Girls

Advance publicity suggested that this B-side, from the San Diego duo's forthcoming Sleep Foreversingle, was a mash-up of the two classic tracks by Deee-Lite and The Beach Boys. Actually, it's a Madchester-esque cover of Groove Is in the Heart, with snatches of the lyrics from California Girlstossed in at the very end. It's great fun though.
