Sea of Cowards
Warner Bros***
Two albums with The Raconteurs, and now a second album with his latest side- project . . . it sounds like Meg Whites gonna be waiting a while longer for another call-up. Meanwhile, Jack Whites dirt- grunge-sleaze-trash outing with Alison Mosshart takes another walk on the wild side, via 11 jacked-up electro-guitar blues jams that just dare you to stand in their way. The formula laid down on Horehoundremains: shredded blues-rock riffs and dual vocal sparring that make sparks fly. If youre looking for choruses, middle-eights and build-ups, you've come to the wrong alleyway, buddy – these songs have a one-track mind, and are too focused on mayhem to mess with the niceties. Soon, however, it all starts to feel a little like rock'n'roll drudgery, but a good blast of this should nicely clean the musical palate. thedeadweather.com
