The Frank & Walters

Wider commercial acceptance has been a long time coming for Cork's Frank & Walters. In their 22-year stop-start career, they have adorned the cover of NME and appeared on Top of the Pops; conversely, they have been as low-profile a band as you can imagine. These days they are much loved and fondly remembered by people of a certain age, but mean little to noughties indie kids and hipsters. Greenwich Mean Time, their sixth album (and the first since 2006's A Renewed Interest in Happiness) sees the band boldly hanging on to their trademark nagging melody lines coupled with simplistic, heartfelt lyrics (the superb If I'd Known), but also acknowledging their advancing years in exceptionally literate songs such as Berlin, Loneliness and Sweet Romance, and 20 Years.
