The Edge reckons that Sweet Disposition, the ubiquitous hit from The Temper Trap's debut, sounds like Where the Streets Have No Name. Rest easy, Mr Evans. U2 may be progenitors of a commonly borrowed formula for stadium rock, but the Australians' latest efforts emerge as shiny, rounded pop songs, claiming a space somewhere between The Killers and Duran Duran. Nestled above the pulsating synths, overactive drums and guitar arpeggios, frontman Dougy Mandagi injects even the most nondescript lyric (and, boy, there are lots of them) with heart-wringing emotion. Is that bad? Not at all. It lags in the middle but ultimately delivers an agreeable combination of epic anthems (Need Your Love, Trembling Hands) and power ballads (Rabbit Hole, I'm Gonna Wait) readymade for a radio near you. thetempertrap.com
