Trouble
Polydor***
It’s easy to see why Oxford producer Orlando Higginbottom has already gained the approval of folks like Damon Albarn and Hot Chip. Higginbottom’s way with electronic airs and graces is something to be savoured, the producer scoping out a variety of bleeps and grooves to keep the listener in step.
This maxmimal approach worksbest on tracks like Trouble (a bubbling, powerful piece of future house exhibitionism), Promises and The Garden, each featuring Higginbottom pushing and pulling his grooves this way and that. However, despite this open-minded, restless approach, there are too many times when Trouble just doesn't seem all that interested in exploring life beyond its comfort zone. It's one thing to press all the right buttons, but it's quite another to use them to come up with a set of alluring, diverse tunes. totallyenormous extinctdinosaurs.com
