Reznor and Ross combine analog and digital noize and treated instrumentation (electric guitar, piano, drum) with edgy pulses and simple and repetitive melodies to produce a strange and haunting score that is at once abrasive and lyrical, aleatory and cohesive, atmospheric and dramatic. Bookended with grinding covers of Immigrant Songby Karen O and Is Your Love Strong Enoughby How to Destroy Angels, its atmosphere is further darkened by producer Alan Moulder's gritty mixing.
