This Is Tunng . . . Live from the BBC Full Time Hobby***

London folk troupe Tunng have already released four studio albums, but this collection compiles the finest cuts from the various BBC radio sessions undertaken since their inception in 2003. These songs are mostly lo-fi folk gilded with a burbling current of gentle electronica, a sound that the sextet have made their own. There's a lot to like here, but stripping down already skeletal songs makes for slightly dull listening before long. Where Tunng really excel is outside of their comfort zone, as heard on the gorgeous Tamanant Tilay(which features African rockers Tinariwen after a chance meeting at the BBC), and a cover of Blue Pearl's 1990s dance hit Naked in the Rain. A perfectly nice collection for completists, but a dispensable one for the uninitiated. See tunng.co.uk
