As they've shown on previous EPs, these Long Islanders know how to create hypnotic sounds and rich, languid dream-pop. Occasionally their debut album trades in other commodities as well, including sultry, sweet, low-key funk, where guitars are twanging rather than tweeful, and singer Andrea Estrella coos her way to the higher ground. But away from tracks such as Stopand Space Babe, where the band try to get jiggy (after a fashion), the main momentum is provided by wistful, hazy waves of vintage indie melancholia. Twin Sister have a fantastic way of appearing sonically aloof and indistinct yet stealthily inveigle their way into your affections with gorgeous pulls of sound. Much of this comes down to Estrella's ethereal vocals and Eric Cardona's nimble guitar sways, but they also provide plenty of hints that there's additional heft waiting to be unleashed in the songwriting department.
