The Errant CharmBella Union ****

Before signing to Bella Union for 2009's acclaimed Tight Knit, Vetiver spent years burrowing through the musical underground, offering leg-ups to the likes of Devendra Banhart and creating a comfortable yet quietly creative niche of the folk world for themselves. The San Franciscans continue to flourish with their fifth record. Andy Cabic's gentle murmur is key to these beautifully organic songs, particularly on the yearning yawn of Worse for Wearand the hollow shimmer of Faint Praise. It's not all feeble fey folk, though: Ride Ride Rideand Wonder Whykick things up a notch, while the wonderful muddled pop of Can't You Tellis a colourful standout. It's likely that Vetiver will remain something of a buried treasure for most, but albums like this gleam and pulsate with a timeless allure. See vetiverse.com
