Vivaldi: The French Connection 2

Can you have too much Vivaldi? Not if you're Adrian Chandler, founder and director of the period instruments ensemble La Serenissima, which has devoted more than a half-dozen CDs entirely to his music, and whose concerts in Dublin tonight and tomorrow are dominated by his work. And apparently not if you were a music lover in 18th-century France, either, where the arrangements of The Four Seasonseven included a choral version. La Serenissima's second French ConnectionCD includes nine works written for French noblemen, written on French paper, or touching on French musical style. It's an agreeable collection, and includes a first recording of a flute concerto which came to light last year ( Il Gran Mogol, with Katy Bircher as soloist) and a lively bassoon concerto (RV473) with Peter Whelan delivering the necessary, sometimes unlikely-sounding agility.
