Ane Brun: Songs 2003-2013

Stockholm-based Norwegian singer-songwriter Ane Brun adheres to the Scandinavian model of how to make it in the music industry: start out quietly and continue to write inordinately good songs while simultaneously keeping counsel as major label deals fall by the wayside. It's likely that a few people aren't overly familiar with Brun's fragile ways. This 32-track retrospective compilation(across two CDs) gathers together better known material and rather beautiful obscurities. An early tune, Humming One of Your Songs, sets the pace; the remaining tracks ebb and flow, with Brun rarely putting a foot (or vocal line) wrong. Highlights are many, but The Treehouse Song, Worship (featuring Jose Gonzalez) and a blissful rendition of Arcade Fire's Neighbourhood #1 (Tunnels) take the very crispy biscuit.
