Indie-folk? Comparisons to Arcade Fire? Such things could well and truly nobble a band from the outset, but Edinburgh's Broken Records seem to be made of sterner stuff. So they continue to mine the seam of music that takes in such dark delights as Bruce Springsteen's Nebraskaand Nick Cave's Murder Ballads, as well as straddling the sombre/sassy joys of REM's early outings and Calexico's Tex/Mex/Cali hybrid.

That’s not all. This bunch (officially a sextet, but onstage they grow legs, arms and instruments) utilise their fiddle and accordion to conjure up a veritable Celtic storm. Through the latter in particular, you can see where the Arcade Fire references enter the picture, but Broken Records have the distinct advantage of being so idiosyncratic that such comparisons are hardly going to matter.
