CC Brez - The Nightfall review: solid pop debut full of groove

Artist: CC Brez
Genre: Pop
Label: Fat Burrito
Not to be confused with the ubiquitous Bressie, CC Brez – or Cormac Breslin, as he’s more commonly known – will look familiar to fans of Republic of Loose. The Dubliner’s face graced the cover of their second album Aaagh! but he leaves most traces of his former band behind for his solo debut.
You’ll hear similar funk and soul influences spread brazenly through songs such as She’s Cold, Scandalous and The Break Up, and Prince is a glaringly obvious touchpoint on the enjoyably dirty pop-funk of I.C.U. The glossy current of 1980s electropop running through songs such as Her Alibi are less convincing and Breslin strains for fresh ideas as the album progresses.
Still, it’s a solid pop album with plenty of shoulder-shimmying grooves for those who feel like dancing. facebook.com/ccbrez
