Dublin's foremost arts collective Nighthawks will top off a hugely successful 2011 tonight with a Christmas special on RTÉ's Radio 1's Arenaarts show from 7.30pm.
The collective has gone from strength to strength in recent months, curating various shows and stages at festivals, as well as staging their own regular club nights at The Cobalt Café on North Great George’s Street. The next show at that venue will take place on January 7th, and will feature music by The Gandhis, Cat Dowling and Ailie Blunnie, as well as comedy and performance poetry. Tickets are €13 and on sale from Oxfam on Parliament Street.
Tonight’s radio show will feature performances and readings by O Emperor, Dermot Bolger and comedy trio Foil, Arms Hog, amongst others.
Nighthawks founder Stephen Kennedy is also staging a Beatles tribute night at The Workman’s Club on January 28th. Celebrated Scottish tribute band Revolver will play live, while there will also be a performance of the Kennedy-penned short play Lennon v McCartney.
