Mining for fresh sounds in the netherworld where shoegaze rubs shoulders with instrumental electronica can be a thankless task. Fortunately Paul O'Reilly and Owen O'Mahony (members of on-hiatus Channel One) are well on their way to striking gold. They've trimmed their tunes of excess fat and delved straight into the melodic core for this mini-album, a tantalising introduction to Forrests. Billions and Tarifa, two tracks that have loitered around the internet for a while, are perfect amalgams of synth loops, pillowed-beats, treated guitars and layered voices that recall M83 at his most epic and blissed-out. Elsewhere, Arterial and Symmetries provide Helios and Manual-esque levels of ambient joy. The verdict? Forrests can definitely see the wood for the trees. forrestsforrests.com
