Track of the week: United States of Pop 2015 (50 Shades of Pop) by DJ Earworm
As is Pop Corner tradition, we see in the new year by waving goodbye to the year that has passed. This year in pop mash-up is emotionally vulnerable, crying “what do you mean” at one point, then begging “say you’ll remember me”.
The high points of Uptown Funk’s “hot damn!” seem to reflect on good times past, rather than those coming. But the undertones are of determination, from “nobody can drag me down” to Sugar’s “yes please!”. This year is gonna be a good one. We can tell.
Hero of the week is Perrie Little Mix. She reflected on her split with Zayn, telling Fabulous magazine: "As difficult as it can be to have your private life plastered all over the press and on social media every day, I guess the one plus side is that it is like a looking glass for other women to look in and relate to. I learn new things every day, but I've learned that no matter what life throws at you, you take it day by day."
Meanwhile, in hot drinks news, Adele has stopped adding sugar to her tea. She told the Sun that she's ditched sweet tea and feels great for it. "I used to drink 10 cups a day with two sugars in each so I was on 20 sugars a day," she said. "Now I don't drink it and I have more energy than ever."
Zero of the week is Harry Potter, Katy Perry has told People magazine. Due to Katy's religious upbringing, Harry and co were not welcome in her house. "I know Harry Potter, but I've never read the books, nor have I seen the movies because growing up, I was not allowed to read the books."
Not to worry though, as our dear Katy can now live her dreams through her merch.
“Growing up, I wasn’t allowed to have any fantastical, enchanting stuff around me,” she said. “It’s funny that now I’m doing a little bit of a magic-potion-themed perfume.”
