Future is on a prolific run of late.
Last year, the Atlanta rapper released the DS2 and 56 Nights albums and co-authored the What A Time To Be Alive set with Drake, a collection which was a lot more Future than Drizzy in tone and content.
On Purple Reign, he's rewinding to take another look at some of the themes that dominated recent albums.
He returns to pick again at the scab of his break-up with singer Ciara on Never Forget and there's more musing on the dope game on Perkys Calling.
You get sizzle on the tracks helmed by Nard & B (Inside the Mattress), No Charge and Perkys Calling (both by Southside), though it's striking the rest of the album rarely bothers with brewing up a new beats aesthetic.
There will be more to come from Future in 2016 no doubt so let’s chalk this one down to the rapper clearing his throat.
