There's much to admire in the sounds that power Nick Millhiser and Alex Frankel's second album. If Holy Ghost! were looking to create an after-dark New York metropolitan groove, they'd certainly be on the right track, what with the abundance of disco, synth-pop, electro and house ins and outs here. But just as their first album didn't quite live up to the pre-match chatter, the duo end up deploying this commendable arsenal of sounds in order to go back to a not-so-attractive future. Dynamics shows a strange fondness for 1980s power ballads (It Must Be the Weather), vapid AOR (I Wanna Be Your Hand) and other musical atrocities. They are are at their best when they stick to honing and shining melodic bleeps and riffs (Bridge and Tunnel, Changing of the Guard, Dumb Disco Ideas).
