Artist: Joel Harrison
Genre: Jazz
Label: Cuneiform

Eclectic electric guitarist Joel Harrison pays tribute to the influences that flew at him from every direction in his native Washington DC, a city which, he points out, changes much of its population every four or eight years. Harrison shares with guitarists Marc Ribot, Nels Cline and Wayne Krantz a sensibility that in some ways is closer to rock or country than jazz. He has already made significant contribution to the "beyond jazz" category, inducting country, blues, bluegrass, Americana, rock and psychadelia into his sound. As if to prove the point, for this paean to Harrison's roots the guitarist draws on a creditably wide variety of sources, from Luther Vandross and Leonard Cohen to George Russell and Paul Motian. joelharrison.com
