Five years have passed since Juana Molina's last album (Un Dia), but the former Argentine TV comic effortlessly picks up where she left off. On her sixth album, Molina's fizzy electronics, old-world, bossa-novaesque charms, jazzy intentions and pop guile wind their way around a procession of warm, bittersweet and slightly unconventional melodies. While the Molina of old relied largely on voice, guitar and loops, Wed 21 has room in the riggings for percussion, electric guitars and bass to go with the harmonies created by that soft-toned, whispery voice. There's a big helping of experimentation as well, with opener Eras, Ferocisimo and the title track full of twitchy synths and gentle sonic wobbles to keep things humming. An album from an artist who follows her own star. jualinamolina.com Download: Eras, Wed 21, Ferocisimo
