He classifies his music as alt.pop, but in reality it's hard to pin down what genre Keith Moss is actually aiming for. In normal circumstances such diversity may be a positive characteristic, but the Dubliner's debut album is a cluttered mess. Moss sounds lacking in conviction on Fat Men Have to Eat, a tirade against greedy bankers that seems more about ticking the "angry young songwriter" box than an original social commentary, while his half-hearted warble on Burn Away Inside and Hazy Thoughts on Foggy Walks is frustratingly feeble. The bizarre programming on most of these songs is an unfortunate blight; without the studio-programmed beats, it's easier to get to the heart of a song such as The War Outside Your Door. Overall, the album is more maddening than moving. reekus.com/artists/keith_moss
