An arresting earthiness and energy pulses through this 14-track debut collection of old-time Americana. This North Carolina outfit have clearly worked on their harmonies.
They also strike a distinctive note in their song selection (a couple of Carter Family tunes plus nods to Kitty Wells, George Jones and, interestingly, Nick Cave); also impressive is the punch of instrumental workouts like Logan County Blues and the moody power of Chloe Edmonstone's originals, particularly When The Whiskey's Goneand Horse Drawn Buggy.
Edmonstone (fiddle, guitar and vocals) and Meredith Watson (guitar and vocals) form the band’s spine but Hilary Hawke (banjo), Ariel Dixon (banjo and vocals) and Andy Deaver Edmonstone (bass) have their moments.
This album is being released ahead of the band’s UK and Irish tourwhich lands here in late March.
