Lucy Rose: Work it Out | Album Review

The opening track of Lucy Rose Parton’s second album is deceptive; if you’d never heard of the young British musician, you might peg her as just another mournful singer-songwriter.

In fact, this collection of eclectic songs displays her breadth of diversity – she’s collaborated with Bombay Bicycle Club and Manic Street Preachers.

From the catchy pop of Our Eyes to the edgy, rock-laced gloom of Koln and the scuffled acoustic indie of My Life, Parton's ear for melody comes up trumps.

Things get really interesting on the album's final third, taking in moody, late night electronica (She'll Move) and the sort of sassy, skitterish electropop that Lily Allen wishes she could still write (Cover Up).

It's a little scattered, but Parton is a pop writer with plenty of exciting ideas.
