This isn’t Mark Rae’s first excursion to the city by the Lee. As a member of Manchester groove machine Rae Christian, the producer was in town a few years ago for a now- legendary performance at the Southern Soul Disco Festival (which returns to Cork in June). Rae’s collaborations with Steve Christian and vocalist Veba resulted in such mighty albums as Northern Sulphuric Soul, which soaked up the soul and hip-hop influences that were part and parcel of the Manchester clubbing experience.

Aside from a brace of Rae Christian albums, the one-time Grand Central and Fat City chief has also released a well-received solo album (Rae Road) and collaborated with Rhys Adams and a host of vocalists (Dawn Penn, Veba, Baby Chann, Sweetie Irie) on the reggae and ska-friendly Yes King band and label.
