Born in Chile and based in Germany, producer Matias Aguayo takes a commendably off-kilter approach to electronic pop. Previous body-moving experiments such as Ay Ay Ay had him tweaking a patchwork of vocal sounds into joyous, twitchy, hypnotic tunes, while his collaboration with Battles was a carefree blast of primitive funk. Here Aguayo's mission is to show that daft, punkish blasts of electronic flim-flam can fire up hedonistic gatherings outside of conventional club spaces. His pop-up bumbumbox raves have been instrumental in pushing that particular agenda and proving the wisdom of layering his sounds with new ideas and rhythms. Tracks RRRR, El Sucu Tucu and the gloriously feral Una Fiesta Diferente are grandstanding affairs, full of colour, excitement and incandescent energy.
