Michele Stodart - Pieces album review: one is the magic number

Artist: Michele Stodart
Genre: Singer / Songwriter
Label: One Little Indian

Taking a temporary leave of absence from UK sibling band, The Magic Numbers, Michele Stodart’s second solo album sees her revisit similar styles that made her 2012 debut, Wide Eyed Crossing, such a pleasure.

If the music style is a variant of widescreen country/roots (think a smoother Lucinda Williams), then the lyric content is no less confessional. Written in a variety of locations (we’re guessing lonely hotel rooms, for the most part), the range of topics include yearning for lost love (Just Anyone Won’t Do), searching for inner peace (Over the Hill), recovering from dysfunctional relationships (When Is It Over?), grasping back self-respect (Ain’t No Woman), and hoping for eternal love (Will You Wait).

Calm, reflective, sober – for good reason, the magic number here is one
