MAKE space in your diaries for some post-Electric Picnic cultural recuperation: Culture Night will return to venues nationwide on September 21st. There’s plenty for music fans, and though the main focus is on Dublin, there are lots of events around the country. The capital’s highlights include a gig with the ever-ambitious Julie Feeney (below), who is taking a break from preparations for her choral project to participate in Sounds Alive, a radio-based event in Mahaffy House on North Great George’s Street. Elsewhere, trad legend Dónal Lunny plays Ranelagh Arts Centre, and Na Píobairí Uilleann will perform in the group’s newly renovated HQ on Henrietta Street.

Outside the pale, DJ Donal Dineen and trad musician Maitiú O'Casaide will provide a live soundtrack for Spanish painter Guillermo Carrion as he creates a new work at St Canice's Cathedral, Kilkenny. Carlow's Café Formenti will be transformed into a 1920s speakeasy, with bluegrass from Brían and Diarmuid Glynn, and Galway Film Centre hosts a documentary about fiddle player Martin Hayes.
