Geographical lines cross-cut No Crows' latest recording in a loose-limbed, languid celebration of Irish, Mediterranean and Gypsy musical influences. Having expanded their membership to include singer-songwriter, guitarist and fiddle player Ray Coen, their fourth album is a coming of age. Former Loyko fiddler Oleg Ponomarev keeps his characteristically swinging melodies firmly rooted in No Crow's repertoire. But bar is raised more than a notch or two by the richness of original song compositions and the strength of the vocal contributions from guitarist/composer Felip Carbonell and Waterboy Steve Wickham, alongside Coen's high lonesome and plaintive meditation, (Blame It on the) Good Times. The band's ornithological preoccupations are reinforced through the fiery, deliciously rhythmic Save the Corncrake set. nocrows.net
