Fabriclive 73 sees Kevin McAuley follow Hessle Audio colleagues Ben UFO and Pearson Sound into the Fabric mix canon. All three have branched out well beyond the dubstep that made their name, with Pangaea's productions and mixes now focusing on the 4/4 pulse and inexorable forward motion of techno. The first half of this mix-CD establishes a mood and a tempo without providing too many thrills, but that changes at the halfway point, as Psyk's fierce Arcade barrels in with its cavernous, galloping kicks. A full five-minute helping of Pearson Sound's grime symphony Starburst soon follows before the apex of the mix, as the elegiac synth line of Pev & Kowton's End Point breaks through the clouds. Then it's a race to the finish with some tough and functional techno from the likes of Truncate and Oscar Mulero. Open-minded techno heads will enjoy the ride. facebook.com/journeytopangaea
