The PC Music gang come to the table with dayglo, giddy pop and a strange kind of subversive conceptual art.
It’s a movement as nebulous and abstract as they come – a collective of largely anonymous, London-based producers with loose ties to one another and label figurehead AG Cook – and the music matches that disposable, temporary, contrived aesthetic.
The cuts on this compilation imagine a hypercolourful future pop world, but one full of references to K-pop surrealism, brash EDM party drops, Auto-Tune chirps and synthetic pop.
While the fizzier tracks associated with PC Music are missing, you get a good sense of the collective's drift on Hannah Diamond's Every Night, GFOTY's USA and the strange wonder sculpted by Cook on Beautiful.
The sound of escapism from a very smart crowd.
