Shrouded in a chemical fog of neo-psychedelic luxuriance, last year's Free Time! debut from Pinkunoizu had enough guile and charm to rise above its Day-Glo list of obvious influences. The first two tracks on the Danish outfit's sophomore release dazzle with such a thrumming propulsion of motorik drums that the four-piece seem at risk of getting caught in an endless spacey krautrock loophole. They're too smart for that, however. Instead, the album unleashes a class-A cocktail that trips over touchstones ranging from Animal Collective and Beta Band to Neu! and King Crimson. By turns chaotically shouty (Moped), acoustically downcast (Down in the Liverpool Stream) and gorgeously thorny (Pyromancer), The Drop is a striking next stop on Pinkunoizu's journey towards multi-genre amalgamation. pinkunoizu.com Download: Necromancer, Pyromancer
