AILBHE MALONEgets drawn back in and worn down
TRACK OF THE WEEK:
Brokenhearted by Karmin
We’ve tried really hard to hate Karmin (below). Everything about them annoys us, from their stage-school expressive faces shtick to the way lead singer Amy Heidemann channels a photocopied Nicki Minaj. But the other day, we found ourselves drawn back to Brokenhearted, putting it on repeat, like it was all we’d ever need again. They’ll wear you down, you see. And you might even enjoy it too.
It’s coming up to the one-year anniversary of Amy Winehouse’s death, and her mother Janis has been reflecting. Speaking to Hello!, Janis explained: “I’m pretty sure she has come back as a butterfly because she would love the freedom of flying. Mitch was giving the eulogy and a butterfly flew in.” She continued: “Also, we were at JFK airport in New York shortly after she died. We were eating some food when, all of a sudden, one of Amy’s songs came on and a feather dropped onto our table.”
Rita Ora’s been getting some advice from Beyoncé (who’s the wife of Rocafella records head honcho Jay-Z, who signed Rita – do keep up!) Speaking of all the attention she’s been getting recently, Rita (below) explained: “It’s a compliment to be compared to Rihanna. But you do have to hold your own.” She went on: “If you know yourself then everything else will follow – that’s what Beyoncé told me. She was always one of my idols, so to have her in my face was amazing.” We’ll presume she didn’t mean that literally.
Lady Gaga has begun to talk about her new album. And it’s exciting. During her monster Australian tour, Gaga proclaimed from the stage: “Lets just say I feel, I feel that when I wrote Born This Way, I demonstrated a sense of maturity. And I feel that, on the next album, there’s a lack of maturity, it’s a tremendous lack of maturity or sense of responsibility.”
In the meantime, Gaga’s taking inspiration from another Stefani, as she tweeted “Is anyone else freaking out about No Doubt putting out a new album. I can’t wait!”
