Pop Corner: Ariana Grande is fed up of talking about men

The latest pop news, including Hurts’ “do do do” hook and Liam Payne’s issue with spoons

Track of the week:  Some Kind Of Heaven by Hurts
What other pop group would open their comeback single with the line "I am ready for the rapture/ I am reaching for the light"? It can only be Hurts. Some kind of heaven is a big song, with dance floor strings and a "do do do" hook that's catchier than Packie Bonner's hands.

Hero of the week is Ariana Grande, who told the Mirror she was tired if talking about men. "I'm honestly so tired of talking about dating and my love life and everything. I'm kinda doing my thing right now." She went on: "People don't ask the men. It's like, 'Is that the only thing we have to talk about? Is that the only thing women are relevant for is their relationship with men?' No. We're absolutely perfectly fine on our own and we can talk about our music, our work, our kick-ass tours around the world. Why don't we talk about that as opposed to who we're currently flirting with?"

New Zealand is great for popstars, according to Lorde. She told Vogue Australia that: "It is easier to have a normal life back home. I think everyone knows that they're going to see me around, that I'm going to be buying gum from a gas station or whatever. The shine rubs off when you're like: "Oh yeah, my friend met her in the supermarket the other day." I think people are much more chill about it. "

Zero of the week is spoons, according to Liam Payne. He told Capital FM: "I'm not so much scared of spoons, I'll hold one. But I don't like eating with them, if they're not my spoons, if that makes sense. It is a bit weird."

He went on: “When I was a kid I was a bit naughty at school and when you were naughty they made you do the washing up. “I had to wash all these nasty spoons and then it’s just stuck with me after.”
