Track of the week
Britney Spears – Tom's Diner
Taken from the upcoming Giorgio Moroder album, this has all the makings of a cult Britney classic. It's a cover of the iconic Suzanne Vega track. A little bit kitsch, just the right amount of distant, and with a vocoder middle eight you'll either love or hate. Could this be Brit's new direction? If so, we're submitting our request for a Two of Hearts cover.
Zero of the week is the huge success of Call Me Maybe, according to Carly Rae Jepsen. The song overshadowed everything else on her second album, Kiss, she tells the Guardian – if she'd had her way, it wouldn't even have been the first single. "I was fighting tooth and nail for another song to be on the radio. Even with I Really Like You, I had been sending in songs every week to my label and I had no idea that was going to be the one that would work . . . I have zero ear for the radio, apparently."
Hero of the week is Louis One Direction, who has just set up his own record label. Louis told the Sun: "This is something I've wanted to do for some time. To be given the opportunity to potentially give new artists a platform is an incredible feeling. I hope to sign some really exciting new artists down the line." The first signing? X Factor alumnus Jack Walton.
In other news: Iggy Azalea told a US radio station: "What do I like to do as a hobby besides rapping? I just bought a horse, so that's something I like to do that nobody suspects. I like jumping horses. It's what I'm into."
