Pop Corner: Brooke Fraser wants to be your MRI, and Rihanna wants a balloon

Plus: Rita Ora’s voice coaching, Nadine Coyle’s new album, and Cheryl’s voting motivation

Track of the week
Brooke Fraser Magical Machine Brooke is a pop star in the making from New Zealand, but any Lorde comparisons can stop there. In terms of sound, she's more Scandi than Kiwi – think Lykke Li or Tove Lo. Plus points to this song for using the metaphor "I'm your MRI/ Show you what's going on inside".

Hero of the week is Rihanna, for speaking a lot of sense during the press conference for her new film, Home: "The more we respect ourselves the more men will respect us. I have both sides to me and I think most women do. We are strong but very vulnerable as well. I get very fierce and passionate about my career and about my family. But there are also things that make me become a little girl . . . I love balloons, that definitely really brings out the little girl in me."

Zero of the week is Rita Ora's accent skills, according to Glamour magazine in Germany. Rita said that she needed extra coaching for her 50 Shades role: "... because I had to have a certain accent. It was really great to go into a completely different world, but it was not always easy."

In Girls Aloud news, Nadine Coyle is working on a new album, according to the Daily Star. Nadine explained: "I'm so, so excited about it. I would love it to be released sooner rather than later but it will definitely be this year."

Meanwhile, Cheryl will not be drawn on her voting plans, telling the Telegraph: "I feel like a greater responsibility now to vote for who runs our country. And I pay a f***ing lot of tax. So I think that I need to have a really well-informed, well-educated opinion."
