Track of the week: Happy by Marina and the Diamonds
If you are feeling delicate after several sherries at the New Year's party, this beautiful track might push you over the edge. Tender and twinkly, Happy is the polar opposite to Froot.
Marina sings about feeling desperately unhappy, but finally seeing the light. Imagine Obsessions from her earlier days, polished until it shines.
Hero of the week goes to Lorde, for always knowing what she wants. She told Stella magazine she never felt pressured to be a typical teenager. "I would be 14 or 15 and completely sober out of choice at a party, just watching everything. Trying to make sense of every weird thing that happens at a party with 15-year-olds. I knew from really young that that was something I was interested in and that would come out in my art – how my peers are interacting." She went on, "because the way teenagers are and the way they live is really special and really different to any other stage in life".
Zero of the week is the pressures of fame. Specifically the pressures that Beyoncé is experiencing. In a short video, she explained that "before I was famous I was the girl on the hill with a guitar. I was the girl that just wanted a beautiful view of the beach. Now that I'm famous it's really, really difficult to do very simple things." She continued, "I think it's the hardest thing to give up, but my mother always taught me to be strong and to never be a victim, never make excuses, never expect anyone else to provide me things that I know I can provide for myself." Poor B.
Meanwhile One Direction's Liam says their new album is their most personal yet. He told Dolly magazine, "lyrically we always try and be as relatable as possible and write about our experiences. Hopefully they'll be able to relate to what we're saying and feel the same as what we felt writing it. This album is a lot more personal, there are songs about a lot of different things."
