Pop Corner: Selena marks her ex’s spot; Zayn chaffed at control

Gomez on Justin, Malik on censorship, Calum 5SOS on parents

Track of the week: Love Yourself by Craig David

Craig David is back with a new single, When the Bassline Drops, an old-school garage banger. But the real story is that David did this Bieber cover for a radio station. Sweet, tuneful and with a garage flavour, the story of a fame-hungry ex comes across all the more sincere when sung by someone who's been through it all and come out the other side

Hero of the Week is Selena Gomez. She told Rolling Stone that she is over talking about her ex. When asked about a video in which Justin Bieber serenades her, she responded: "I am so beyond done with talking about that, and him. I don't alter my life because of what people are going to talk about. If I go and have a great time, I live my life and nothing is going to dictate how I feel unless I let it."

Meanwhile, Zayn Malik opened up to Billboard about his One Direction days. "We weren't allowed to say certain things, or words [lyrics] the way we would want to. I'd sit and wonder, 'If the fans knew how it worked, what would they think?' My argument was: People are more intelligent than that. They want to hear what's real, so why don't we write some stuff that we're actually going through?"

Zero of the Week are parents, Calum 5SOS told Rolling Stone. When he decided to give up on sport in favour of a career in music, his parents didn't react well.

“There was a period of a month where my parents thought I was just making the worst decision of my life. My mom threw all my clothes out of my closet and I was like, ‘Fuck.’ And I left and I stayed somewhere else for a couple days, just being like, ‘Holy shit, I just made probably one of the biggest decisions of my life.’ But now it’s obviously worked out, thank God.”
