Track of the week
Shamir Call It Off Shamir, the guy who brought us On the Regular, dishes up the most "talk to the hand" break-up track we've heard since Kelly Clarkson's Stronger. "I been trying to find a reason to keep us together," he shruggily sings, before serving serious Scissor Sister vibes meets (early 00s disco group) The Rapture. And all in under three minutes.
Heartbreak of the week
Pop Corner is still wearing a black velvet band in sadness over Zayn leaving One Direction. Through our tears, we learn that Zayn has told the Sun that "I only ever tried to do it for the fans, and it was only ever for them. And, basically, I'm only upset I feel like I may have let them down in some sort of way.
“That’s the main thing that I don’t want to happen. It’s not that I’ve turned my back on them or anything, it’s just that I just can’t do that anymore because it’s not real to me.”
He added that 1D have “been cool about it. And they understand that, you know, it’s not real to me anymore. They still want to do it for a while so they’re going to carry on doing what they want to do.”
Zayn has softened our sadness by releasing his first solo effort, a collaboration with producer Naughty Boy on the sparse acoustic track I Won't Mind (See Eoin Butler's review of the track in Shuffle on page 13). So, from heartbroken to heart-slightly-mended in the space of a week.
Hero of the week is Dolly Parton (right), who told People magazine that she was Team Taylor Swift.
“I think that little Taylor Swift has just done amazing,” Dolly said. “She knew exactly who she was, she had her dream, and she stuck with it. That’s what you gotta do. I’m just so proud of her.”
Zero of the week is eating after shows, according to Ed Sheeran. He told an Australian radio station. "I put on a lot of weight a couple of years ago [from] drinking beer. I used to be like nine stone, and then I was like 15 stone and now I'm 11 stone. The main thing I cut out was eating after shows. I'd get off stage and eat a pizza. Now I eat before a show, play, go to bed."
