Track of the week
Deadwater by Wet
A dreamy and poignant tune from Massachusetts trio Wet, with the kind of sultry top line that Miguel would envy. It's a breakup song, but so wistful you don't get the message until it's almost too late. Think flanged guitars, vocal overdubs and spacey keyboards, all carried by a plaintive female vocal. And at just three minutes 30, it's all over too soon.
Hero of the week is Florence and the Machine, says Taylor Swift, who told Billboard that she can't get enough of Flo. "Every time I've been around her, she is the most magnetic person in the room – surrounded by people who are fascinated by the idea of being near her. But when she meets people, she pays them a warm compliment and immediately disarms them. There are very few people I've met in my life who are truly electric, and Florence is one of them."
Zero of the week is glitter, according to reformed glitter lover Kesha. She told Vogue: "I look back lovingly because I was having so much fun . . . before I went on stage I used to pour beer on my body then roll in a bathtub full of glitter. I don't do that anymore because it irritated my skin."
Career switch of the week: X Factor alumnus Rebecca Ferguson is writing a novel. She told the Daily Record: "All I can say is that it is sci-fi. I don't want to give too much away but it will be quite shocking when people see it."
