Queer spin for Record Store Day

A host of bands are lashing out the covers for the third annual Record Store Gay

Record Store Day sees vinyl nerds head to their local record store and even pick up a free gig in the process, but in Dublin, Record Store Gay goes one further, creating a brilliant vibe at Outhouse on Capel Street, and raising some much- needed funds for LGBT causes.

It's the fourth year for Record Store Gay. It is run in association with independent record shop Little Gem Records, which has set up shop on Cavendish Row in Dublin 1 (see littlegemrecords.tumblr.com).

Art, music, community, fun and a celebration of diversity are central to Record Store Gay’s Saturday happening. A bunch of bands also cover their favourite gay(ish) anthem to mark their event, which are then packaged as a CD available to buy on April 18th. This year, Come On Live Long, Patrick Kelleher, Fierce Mild, Sissy and more have contributed. There will also be live performances from more than a dozen bands from 1pm to 6pm at Outhouse, before the party moves down the street to Pantibar for more live music.

This year, all of the cash raised (events are free, but a suggested donation is €10) will go to the YesEquality campaign, and all performers are supporting a Yes vote in the upcoming marriage equality referendum.
