This well-chosen programme presents four major works by three major French composers, all written in the decade after the start of the first World War. Hagai Shaham (violin), Raphael Wallfisch (cello) and Arnon Erez (piano) take an open, direct approach to the Ravel Trio, often lightening the textures and heightening the sense of originality in a work that many performers convey as overwrought. The two Debussy sonatas are also finely wrought, vibrato nicely controlled, sentiment kept in check. Only Fauré's elusive late Trio sounds a little too literal in what is otherwise a refreshing collection. url.ie/6c45
